Apple has lost the plot after the original iphone!

Among all the brouhaha over the iphone5, I feel like the only remaining Blackberry fan in the world! But that isn't true... I am looking at defecting to the Android club soon. But for now,  here are my reasons for my good ol RIM BB, rather reasons why I hate the iphone:

1. Keyboard! : The touch screen keyboard is a hindrance for serious  mails... At least my old old 1st Gen Smartphones had the stylus for some efficiency! Boy, I do have pudgy hands, and before you judge me, let me remind you of the obesity epidemic. In fact, many countries treat weight as a mark of leadership... if this product is designed for the starving then you have a clientele concentrated in LA and Somalia!

2. Autocorrect: Just a very very annoying feature which doesn't go away. One spends more time correcting what Autocorrect ruins!

3. Charger: What is this concept of having a charger being fixed from the top of a phone? With the kind of pathetic battery life iphone has, one frequently needs charging. To get in important calls, like a deal being closed, I've found the hard way that the best is to get into the call while charging is on. The location of charger makes it impossible to hold the phone for a call during charging! And while on the subject of charging, has Apple heard of wireless chargers? Isn't that a usual run of the mill with it's competitors? I have to admit that I always charged my BB via laptop and took calls on headset for a long call.... Btw, is the normal earphones in Apple always so small, or is it a problem with the equipment that got shipped to me? For me it's so small, I keep my equipment on the table, and have to rest my head beside it to put on the headphones...

4. File Exchange: Why does Grandpa Apple have to babysit me on how to use my own phone?what and how I exchange my own files between 2 systems that I rightfully and legally own? It's like renting out your apartment but keeping the keys with you! BB allows use of the phone as an additional USB device that's helped me in real situations where I was in urgent need of an additional storage space.

5. Bluetooth and : Just what is it with Apple that makes it as liberal as Saudi Arabia? Lock out the ecosystem, no customization, no flexibility. Is Apple doing me a favour by letting me buy something for a fortune? And talk about brand loyalty...now you'll have to shell out more $$ for an adapter to use all your earlier iHome gadgets... that my-friend , is Apple's answer to non-iphone universal accessories that never become obsolete.

6. Siri: I thought the imbecile didn't understand my Indian accent, until I discovered a score of my patently American friends having the same problem 75% of the time. Should we speak in Chinese English for it to get us correct? With the keyboard being what it is, at least the Siri should have been got right. For me. With a very very Indian accent, that I am proud to carry!

7. What's with the ugly remote-control designs?  Anybody in the manufacturing sweatshop who tested this with their Asian hands?? Or is there now an apps for $$ to grow a taller thumb!? My BB trackball is a much better idea anyday! Why can't iphone be more phone-sized wider...is an extra row of icons the only thing customer's want? If it has to be screens, I am much better with a Android phone than iphone really, On the issue of screens (and cameras), i can't pretend to be a BB fan though ;)

8.  With the success of mobile payments as witnessed in Kenya (mpesa), I don't think mobile payments through Near Field Communication (NFC) is too far. And that's just one of the uses. It's a shame it shouldn't have been included in iphone5. It's again a standard feature in new BBs. Or maybe Apple is content ripping us off iTunes to consider being competitive by adding new features! Point is, has Apple stopped even trying to be innovative... at least the competition is trying with some new tech/features!

9. Call-End Button! What was Apple thinking ... I can't ignore pesky calls! Click with the only button there and the call just remains active on in the background.... As someone said, if people can hear me just 5 sec after each call, I'd be friendless, and Apple is very close to getting this done! <My bro, an Apple fanboy, tells me this can be fixed, but he's a mobile apps developer...!!>

10.  Support communities? Apple hates it.  Live widgets... nah go and open each of your dumb apps for basic info.

<Edit - Additional points>
11. iTunes! : Just where does a new user get training on this?? Why is it required in the first place... very restrictive  And is it true that if your iphone gets synced to a device, everytime your device changes, your data and apps get wiped off? And therefore now you're trapped into having to use iClouds ! If that's true, that's really blackmailing your customers!

To sum-up, I think iphone lost the plot after the original iphone epiphany...!!  It's now a phone that's lost the innovation edge, is way too over priced, breaks easily and expensively, they come out with too many models that have no back-version compatibility, iTunes SUCKS, I mean that its too damn hard to learn.... A BB is still a much more productive phone without any investments on accessories.

  1. No removable battery
    No memory extension
    Transfer files only through itunes
    iTunes is a pain
    No customization
    No access to files
    Can't download files
    No radio
    Arrogant stupid apple fans
Apple thinks it knows what is the best for me, which in itself is sth I don't like

  2. And Black Berry is the most sought after for the persons like Sanjiv Bhatt to tell lies under oath. If you give a BB, he will do/indict anyone. So BB is better for spreading lies. :-)

  3. Very biased article. BB sucks for guys who have big hands. Don't forget the retina display which BB certainly doesn't have. Paranoia mode lets you click upto 28 mega pixel pic. Personal assistant is the most advanced than any other ph, does BB have that? ;) have many friends you complain about the track pad low quality & prefer touch screen. Apple is the best & most versatile app store than anyone in market.

    1. It's biased all right :) Haven't been able to convert. Main problem is I find it restrictive.... But obviously it's doing things right for many... to have captured so much market. Losing the competitive edge fast, and since the next launch is about 2 years away, it should have come with a more futuristic product. unless they have many incremental releases in the between!

    2. Dude! To unrestrict iPhone jailbreak it! It takes hardly 2 mins. Them download stuffs, listen to radio, etc. Between, 3 million iPhone got sold in 2 days of pre Oder. Till now CNET figs tells more than 8 million are out of stores. If iPhone is such a fail then why people take it hands down? Look at the sales figs.

  4. Yes, I admit, Camera and Screen in BB is substandard. The "Retina Display" however, does seem to be a good marketing tactic, like all other Apple.... in terms of specs dies it match with an S3 for example?

Dont know about PA... not there in BB. yeah but being an old fashioned client, I do feel sorry when calls get dropped, or suddenly went mute because my ear touched the sensitive screen of a phone. Touch is a headache, but I do have it on my new BB bold 9930. Apple apps may offer functionality, but often I see that functionality a given in other phones. I mean how many apps did u need to have been able to disconnect a phone, or have a auto-sms on disconnect etc... these were pretty regular features before Apple started to make them premium paid offerings....

  5. Call dropping issue was only in 4-5% of iPhone, every phone has a week spot. Steve jobs gave a demo for that as well ;) I or many people don't use phone just for texting or calling. Navigation, entertainment, office, etc. it reduce the headache to carry a laptop. Can you watch a movie comfortably on BB? ;) I can on iPhone :P

    1. What about an S3? The screen's definitely much better for videos... plus looks better for a large phone... at least better than the remote control design!

    2. We are discussing about BB v/s iPhone, no? Between, A6 chip is the fastest than any other S3 or BB. iPhone doesn't hangs his nick in between like S3.
