The BBC rape documentary was a sham
Here's what the sole witness had to say: http://m.huffpost.com/in/entry/6838812
Here's what the 'actors' had to say : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/indianews/article-3069489/Lawyer-M-L-Sharma-prompts-new-row-BBC-film-India-s-Daughter-claiming-convicted-rapist-Mukesh-Singh-playing-characters.html
This staged fiction has done incalculable damage to the reputation of India as "rape country".
While Indians readily admit that there exists a mindset among criminal elements of society and we are trying to make it a zero rape country, it's nobody's case that rape is only a india specific problem. In fact the per capita rape percentages are worse for so called advanced nations.
Similarly the media blitzkrieg on farmer suicides abetted by aap drama, seemed to suggest that poor in this country are committing suicides across the land. Again while nobody contests the fact that life of poor should improve and india does have a unacceptably large population under poverty line, but the propaganda about poor farmers doesn't stand the test of fact. Swaminathan Aiyer published data to prove that most suicides are a result of depression, alcoholism, marital discord etc. ... which is true for all suicides across the world and a very small portion of farmer suicides is actually directly attributable to financial distress. Again the financial distress is higher among landed farmers of Telangana and Vidarbha who have been made to stock to subsistence farming instead of finding better value for their meager lands and a better life outside their shackled existence. Also these are also areas where cotton is traditionally grown using traditional methods and ni government has ever enlightened them on the choice of better crop or better ways of increasing and protecting yield.
Media is doing a unique disservice to the prospects of a strong India and it is no detective work to know that foreign funding is being channeled to derail the India story being scripted by a well meaning and motivated Modi government.
Compare the media terrorism in India to the media of China on the problem of sex-ratio . Have you ever seen an article which brings a bad name to the country! Too much democracy in India magnifies our shortcomings and gives us a chance to correct them.
