Chaturvedis in Mathura

Chaubes assert that their ancestors had been present in Mathura since its very foundation. Mathura's museum has a stone sacrificial pillar (yupa) from teh time of Raja Huviska (2nd century AD) upon which are inscribed the following words:

In the 24th year of Vashishka on the 30th day of the forth month pf summer, Dronal, son of Rudral, a Bharadvaj Mathur Samvedi Brahman, after making a twelve-night sacrifice placed this sacrificial pillar here.

It is said, Chaturvedis came from the sweat of Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Varah . Varah setteld the Chaube in Mathura. An idol of Varah said to be from that age and installed at Chaubiya Para temple is concrete proof of theie ancestrol roots in Mathura.

A narrative from Vishnu Puran reads:

"Hiranyaksh did Tapa and got the powers to take all of Prithvi to hell, except for Mathura. Everyone was in great fear so they asked God to help. he took the form of Varah , killed Hiranyaksh, took prithvi and put it on his tusk. Mathura had remained because it is teen lok se nyaari. Varah put Prithvi down behind Vishram Ghat and said to Prithvi

There is no god equal to Keshav
There is no Brahman equal to Mathur Brahman  (Chaturvedi)
There is no pilgrimage place equal to Vishram Ghat
Oh Earth! This is the essence of truth

Which means, Chaturvedi Brahmans were in Mathura even before Varah's time during the Sat Yug!

In the Valmiki Ramayana, Chaturvedis on the banks of Madhuvan on the banks of Jamuna are reffered thus:

"A resident on the bak of Yamuna, Nar Singh, was a happy person".

How was the Chaube happy when there ruled the demon Lavanasur during Ram's time? As per tradition:

Madhu's son was Lavanasur. He fought with the Chaubes because when his father dies, he asked them to come and do Shraddha for his father. But they refused, because at the same time Durbasa muni asked them to give him food. They went and gave him food... Lavan began to attack the Chuabes in anger for what they had done. Seven of them went from Mathura to Ayodhya and spoke to Rama and asked for his help. He sent his younger brother Shatrughna back with them and Shatrughna killed Lavana and re-settled Mathura.

In the Dwapara yug, Krishna was born in Mathura but ewas raised outside by foster parents. While still a young boy, Krishna returned to Mathura to slay demons sent by his wicked and opressive uncle King Kans of Mathura, whom it had been prophesised, Krishna would destroy. Krishna prevailed over the demons, slew Kans, and libeated the city. Chaubes say that as Krishna's friends, their ancestors assisted him in purging the world of one of its most ancient tyrants Kans.
